Okay I know this may sound crazy, but it was an amazing meal. I must admit I was a bit thrown off by the savory and not sweet (waffles are supposed to be sweet right?), but there were no leftovers, and the cheese sauce makes this recipe the best thing ever.
1 1/2 C All Purpose Flour
2 tsp. Baking Powder
1/2 tsp. Baking Soda
1 tsp. Ground Mustard
1 C Whole Fat Buttermilk
2 Eggs, beaten
1/4 C Melted Unsalted Butter
1 T Fresh Chives, chopped
1 1/2 tsp. Fresh Thyme (leaves only)
1 C Thin Sliced Deli Ham, diced
8oz. Cheez Whiz (I promise this will be good)
3.5 oz. Whole Milk
2 T Franks Hot Sauce (other of choice will work)
1 T Spicy Mustard
1/2 tsp. Chili Powder
1/4 tsp. Granulated Garlic
-In small pot over medium low heat, heat all cheese sauce ingredients. Whisk until cheese is warmed through and mixes with remaining ingredients. Once sauce is blended, reduce heat to low to keep warm.
-In bowl combine flour, baking powder and baking soda and ground mustard; add in butter, buttermilk and eggs. Stir well to ensure dry ingredients become wet. Stir in remaining ingredients.
-Place 1/3 C batter into waffle maker (follow manufacturers directions, some want more or less than others). Cook 3-4 minutes or until golden brown.
-Top cooked waffles with desired amount of cheese sauce, can top with fresh chives and/or thyme. Enjoy!
