Gingerbread Cookies



1 C Packed Brown Sugar

1/3 C Shortening

1 1/2 C Molasses (I prefer blackstrap)

2/3 C Cold Water

7 C All Purpose Flour

2 tsp. Ground Ginger

2 tsp. Baking Soda

1 tsp. Allspice

1 tsp. Ground Cinnamon

1/2 tsp. Salt


  1. In large bowl, beat shortening and brown sugar, then add molasses and water, stir in rest of ingredients.  Cover and refridgerate for at least 2 hours.
  2. Roll dough 1/4 inch think on lightly floured surface.  Using cookie cutters, cut out desire shapes.
  3. Place on greased cookie sheet, bake 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes, place on wire rack until cool.
  4. Decorate with colored frosting or candy.  Enjoy!
